Dr. Diane LU

Board Certified Specialist
HK registered & European Veterinary Specialist in Neurology

Dr. Diane Lu graduated from National Taiwan University in 1996, and after a period of 3 years postgraduate study in Glasgow Veterinary School, she joined the Royal Veterinary College Queen Mother Hospital in London to pursue a 3-year residency in Veterinary Neurology. She stayed on another year as a staff clinician, before returning to Hong Kong in 2003, when she joined Peace Avenue Veterinary Clinic. Diane became Diplomate in European College of Veterinary Neurology in 2004, and currently works as a full time neurologist.

Her specialised area is NEUROLOGY - including brain, spinal cord, muscles and nerves (and all junctions between these!). She has been in this field since her graduation.... so more than a decade dealing with neurological cases!

Diane's main interest in Veterinary Neurology is MRI investigation of CNS diseases, treatment of syringomyelia (first recognised in Cavalier King Charles spaniels, but recently an emerging disease in small breed dogs such as Poodle, ChiHuaHua, Pomeranian and Pugs), meningoencephalitis of unknown etiology (MUE) and all aspects of spinal surgery. Diane loves spinal surgeries as they are rewarding and give her motivation - seeing them from being paralysed to be able to walk and run again, putting smiling faces back on patients and owners......fortunately the majority have excellent outcomes. One of her goals is to provide the public with appropriate advice and treatment options. She has empathy with owners losing their beloved pet family members, as the most heartbreaking and difficult moments for Diane was to euthanize her beloved cat Fa-Dan, due to progressive brain disease.

For Dr. Lu, all neurological cases are unique in their own ways, and she feels blessed to be working with a team of assistants and technicians who are enthusiastic and passionate about this field.

Diane does not have much time left to herself after joining busy PAVC.... in her leisure time, she spends time with her parents, walking her dogs, watching TV series or movies, and shopping. She also enjoys jigsaw puzzles.

Currently Diane has 9 cats (all local cats, adopted from either SPCA or abandoned) and 3 dogs (2 mongrels and 1 Shih Tzu, adopted from SPCA just round the corner from the clinic).

Dr. Lu is excited about the clinic's new acquistion, a high field (1.5Tesla) MRI which makes diagnosis in her patients that much clearer.
